Roger Nober

Roger Nober was appointed executive vice president, Law and Secretary, effective January 1, 2007. At BNSF Nober is responsible for overseeing BNSF’s legal and regulatory matters, claims, corporate communications and State Government Affairs as well as serving on the Board of Burlington Northern Santa Fe LLC.

Prior to joining BNSF, Nober was a partner in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he focused his practice primarily on transportation law and legislative matters. 

From 2002-2006, Nober served as chairman of the United States Surface Transportation Board, having been confirmed by the Senate to the Commission and appointed by President George W. Bush as the Chairman. In 2001 and 2002, he served as the Counselor to the Deputy Secretary of Transportation, where he advised the Secretary and the Deputy Secretary on significant issues before the U.S. Department of Transportation.

From 1997-2001, Nober served as chief counsel for the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure of the U.S. House of Representatives, where he was lead staff member on TEA-21, the Interstate Commerce Commission Termination Act and numerous other transportation-related infrastructure and regulatory legislative matters.  From 1993-1997 he held various other positions on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
